help needed in buying a camera

Hi ,

I am new to SLR world.I want to buy an entry level body with lot of features and a very good lens.I have shortlisted these two cameras.

Minolta maxxum Xtsi + Minolta 28-105 f/3.5-4.5
- price : around $630

Canon Rebel 2000 + Canon 28-135 f/3.5-4.5 USM IS
- price : around $700

I want to know comments on both the bodies and lenses and which one should I go for.
