What is cancer?

Cancer is probably the most feared of all diseases. Even though nearly twice as many people in the Western would die of heart diseases than ‘the Big C’. This reputation is as much due to the mysterious and still largely unknown. Cause of most of the many forms of cancer as to modern medicine’s inability so far to find a cure for most serious and common cancers. The disease appears to strike a random and be a virtual death sentence for anyone unfortunate enough to become afflicted. So, what exactly is Cancer? Cancer is a disease of cells. These are the smallest building blocks in our bodies invisible to the naked eye. Groups of cells form the tissues and organs of the body: each of these has a very specific function. Cancer is what happens when a part of our body grows in an uncontrollable way and damages healthy parts. In other works, it is a disease in which the cells of the body go out of control and start growing unchecked and indepently of the rest of the body. Like so many vandals on the rampage, they rebel against the body’s normal ‘rules’ and form their own breakaway orgnisations. They start interfering with the way the body works and, if nothing is done to stop them, it will cause the failure of important organs and lead to death. Their reasons seem to be a combination of both internal factors (diet & individual phychology) and external factors like environmental pollution. Treatment is often difficult and dangerous and cures are still uncertain and unpredictable in most cases.
