Arable farming
In the south and east is the
most arable farming in Tibet.
Especially barley, which is the base for Tibetan food. Further wheat, beans,
corn and potatoes. In the south-east they cultivate especially peanuts, rice,
tea, tobacco, nuts and pepper. The last twenty years also peaches, apples,
banana's, oranges, pears and watermelons are cultivated.
In the surroundings of Lhasa, Chamdo and Shigatse they are cultivating more
than forty sorts of vegetables.
