China and Tibet
The invasion
The Chinese occupation
The invasion
After years of unrest in China it became really a country after the foundation
of the people's republic with the communist Mao Tse Toeng as the leader. Not
long after that the government announced they wanted to set free their
neighbours Taiwan and Tibet. At that time Tibet was govern by a governor,
because the Dalai Lama wasn't old enough yet to rule the county. The original
governor, Reting Rinpoche was just deprived of his function because of
corruption. Also the next governor Taktra Rinpoche allowed corruption, this
resulted to a few days of violence.
Unfortunately this was at the same time as the renewed hunger after power. So
Tibet was not good prepared against
the Chinese attacks. Tibet was a
peace-loving country that hated to fight, they had an army, but that was so bad
that it couldn't do anything against the Red Chinese army. They also didn't get
any help of the united Nations because they had been isolated for so long.
One part of the red 'rescue-army' went to East-Tibet. There they conquered the
city Dengkok. Here Tibet had her only victory. Lots of
Khampa'sset free the city. Soon after that a
much bigger part of their army reconquered Dengkok and Chamdo. This started at
7 October of 1950. The governor of this region, Ngabo decided to surrender,
without permission of Lhasa.
In spite of the protest of India they continued going to Lhasa at the end of
1951. Now the Tibetan government saw the gravity of the situation. They asked
help from the Gadong oracle. He said the Dalai Lama had to be king
now. So Tenzin Gyatso became when he was 15 years old, at 17 November 1950 the
14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. In spite of this Tibet was occupied by China, after
thousands people were killed.
The Chinese occupation
According to the Chinese's they only wanted to help modernising, but soon it
was clear this was only for self-interest. They wanted to destroy the Tibetan
language, culture and religion and so have the nation in their power. The first
famine came because of the many Chinese soldiers came to Tibet. Further there
was no country who wanted to help Tibet, in spite of all the horribleness that
revealed. Ultimate the Dalai Lama decided to fly from Tibet and live in
banishment in India.
Now the Tibetans get awake of everything that was going. The oppressors were
attacked, but they were lots stronger and soon all revolt was knocked down. Now
the destroying of the culture, language and religion really started. The
Tibetans were discriminated openly and the human rights were infringed more and
more. When the Red Guards came to Tibet, there were rows between several
Chinese parties, but especially the Tibetans were the victims.
People who didn't accept the situation in their country were brought to
prisons, Buddhism writings, fresco's and sacred buildings were destroyed
and fired, religious writings were used as toilet-paper, nuns and monks were
constrained to trampled down sacred objects, they had to beat each other when
someone didn't want to join, traditional plaits were cut off, everything
Tibetans was ruined. People had to beat their family, dig their own grave,
women were raped and pregnant women had to had an abortion. People were
tortured in prisons or put in concentration camps. And this is just a little
part of all the cruelties.
When the situations was stabilised, the Chinese's wanted the Tibetans to
cultivate wheat because they like that better then barley. But the Tibetans got
bad muck and the climate was not fit for cultivating wheat. When they didn't
had enough they were punished. Meanwhile they continued destroying the culture
and torturing in concentration camps.
In the eighties there was almost nothing left of the Tibetan culture and
nature. Also American satellites established there was a Chinese rocket basis
placed in Tibet Also nowadays Tibet is an occupied country, where the Tibetan
nation is the minority. The original faith is allowed again and one third of
the cloisters is rebuild. The oppressing is on a bureaucratic level now. Monks
have to sign documents so they affirm they are faithful to the regime, they
have to go to a re-education curse, some religious leaders are spines. For
normal people it's not allowed to criticise the regime.
