Here are some facts about the sun:

  • it is made up of 71% hydrogen, 27% helium, and 2% of other elements
  • the core of the sun is 29,000,000° F (a hot day on Earth is about 100° F)
  • the core of the sun is 150 times the density of water
  • on the surface, the sun is still very hot- about 10,800° F
  • the sun's diameter is 870,000 miles (Earth has a diameter of 7,926 miles)
  • the sun's mass is 333,000 that the times of Earth (2.1645 octillion tons)
  • the sun is about 5.4 billion years old, which is young for a star
