The Solar System: Mercury

Mercury

The closest planet to the sun is Mercury. It is dead, airless, moonless, and very hot—up to 800° F on the side facing the sun. The dark side is a chilly -300° F. On Mercury, the day is longer then a year. A year is only 88 earth days, but a day is 176 earth days! Only one spaceship from earth has traveled to Mercury. It was the Mariner 10, which traveled in 1974.
