As technology invades schools all over the world, teachers begin searching for ways to use the new tools to assist education. We've formulated the following lesson plan to ensure that students learn about the digital revolution. This suggested lesson plan is intended to cover ideas from our web site about the digital revolution. It can be tailored to fit the needs of the individual teacher.

We designed our site as a segment of a school class while simultaneously integrating the power of the Internet into it. Therefore, we suggest teachers to use each section of our site to complement their professionally developed lesson plans. Below, we describe how teachers can use each section of our web site as a powerful and interactive learning tool.

[the lesson plan]
Content: The content section was created and designed to give all people, but especially students, a way to create a strong knowledge base for themselves so that they can become active participants in the digital revolution. By acquiring a strong knowledge base, students can then voice opinions and thoughts that are backed by facts and not hot air.

It is recommended that all students read the essay before they enter the interact section of the web site.

Interact: Once students have read the essays and absorbed the information contained in them, they can then begin to interact with others. By making available voting topics and a forum to students, students can then voice their opinions and learn what others have to say. That way, knowledge can be shared and students can learn different perspectives regarding the digital revolution. In addition, we offer a quiz for each essay to reinforce knowledge, if necessary.

Services: We offer a variety of services to assist students in learning the material as well as remain updated on current digital revolution occurrences. To keep people updated on digital innovations, we offer a netcast of our opinions and a monthly e-mail newsletter of digital innovations updates and site news. Additionally, we offer an interactive glossary where we encourage the user to add their own definitions to words they feel would increase the overall usefulness of the site. On the question and answer page, we answer any questions people may have about the site.

Please feel free to use any of the services we offer!

Beyond the site: For educators who wish their lessons plans to cover material beyond the site, we have a few suggestions for classroom activities and field trips:

  • Take a field trip to a museum of technology. For example, the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California.
  • Draw a time line of the recent digital revolution that map out important innovations in technology.
  • Create a collage of pictures and text to symbolize innovations in the digital revolution.
  • Have each student write how the digital revolution has affected their lives; and post them on your classroom web site or send the writings to us to post for everyone to see.
