From a first-hand experience, I was able to observe Fernando, the senior aquarist at the Stephen Birch Aquarium-Museum, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UCSD, working to identify coral skeletons. I had been trying for several weeks to get an appointment with Fernando, and so I was understandably excited to be able to see him at work.
