Ritter, Halsted

   Halsted Ritter was a U.S. District Court judge in Florida was impeached due to the many personal and individual crimes he had committed during his time as a judge. Some of these crimes were: practicing law while on the bench, extortion, misconduct, and income-tax fraud. Although these crimes were not considerably enough to impeach Ritter, the Senate however was able to consider all of Ritter's wrongs one impeachable offense and use them to remove him from the bench by on of the articles of impeachment. Ritter was convicted by the Senate on April 17, 1936, however they were unable to prevent him from returning to office by an outstanding defeat by a count of 0 to 76.
