Night Terrors

A night terror occurs when a person sits up and screams in the middle of his or her sleep. Unlike nightmares, night terrors occur during deep sleep. They usually occur during the first deep sleep cycle, during the first third of the night. During this time, the person will have an increased pulse rate, increased blood preasure, sweating, and dilated pupils.

Advice: During the time someone is experiencing a night terror, it basically impossible to comfort him or her. If an awake watcher-by attempts to confort the sleeper, the sleeper's terror usually increases.
