Merlin

Every night, King Vortigern’s kingdom would tumble. Expert masons had worked on it but still it continued to tumble. Finally, King Vortigern sought the help of his wizards. They suggested that he sprinkle the blood of a youth who had never had a father, around the foundation. The King sent his people out in search of this youth. His men finally found this boy in Wales. His name was Merlin. Merlin’s mother testified that Merlin’s father had been a spirit. Merlin appeared to be unafraid of death. He told the king that a lake was stopping the kingdom from standing. Merlin gave directions on how to drain the lake and he guessed that there would be two dragons on the bottom. This was true and when the draining reached the bottom the two dragons began fighting. One of the dragons was white and the other red. The red dragon won the fight. Merlin foretold that this meant that Vortigern would be defeated and would die. Ambrosius made this true by conquering Britain.

King Ambrosius wanted to build a memorial therefor he called upon Merlin. Ambrosius also called upon the magician who told him to obtain the Dance of Giants, which he did. Ambrosius' brother then defeated the Irish. The stones were taken back to England and set up at Stonehenge. With his complete Merlin could see a blazing star shaped like a dragon. He foretold Ambrosius’ death. He also saw a future king Uther Pendragon and Uther’s son following him. Uther’s son would prove to be the best king Britain would have.

King Uther fell in love with the Duke of Cornwall’s wife, causing a war against the nations. Uther called Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall, to his court where he trapped him. Uther wanted to be liked by Ygraine, the Dukes wife, so he called Merlin to help him. Merlin made him to Ygraine’s likeness. Uther was then, with the help of Merlin, let into Tintegel, an impregnable castle where Ygraine was. He slept with her and that night conceived Authur. Gorlois had been slain in battle that night therefor allowing Uther and Ygraine to marry.

When Arthur was born he was handed over to Merlin, who placed him with the knight Sir Ector. The boy was tutored by Merlin and at age 15 was the king of Britain. Uther had no other male heirs so Arthur took Merlin as his adviser. Merlin foretold much that would happen to Arthur.

Merlin fell in love with a woman named Vivian who he shared all his secrets of magic with. In return she gave her love. After she learned all his powerful spells she imprisoned him in a cave. When Arthur leads Britain through her greatest peril after rising, Merlin will awaken.
