  • Gap Overviev

Gap stands for Global Awareness Project. Gap is a ThinkQuest entry by Dan Henderson, Tyler Hollon, and John Coffey. Our Coaches are Dave Lyden and Chris Iselin.

About our Project: Gap is an ever changing, up to date data base about Endangered Species. We started Gap with the intention of making it a worldwide database. Over time, it will become just that. As of now, we only have archives for the species in The United States. After the project is judged and on public display, we hope to be able to add Canada, and then Europe and other continents.

How the Team Met: The members of the group all atended Dean Morgan Junior High School. John and Tyler met at John's father's computer store when Tyler started working for him in 8th Grade. When Dan Came to Casper in 9th grade he and Tyler quickly became friends because they had so many classes together. Tyler introduced John and Dan to each other.

How the Team Learned about ThinkQuest: The typing teacher at our school, Mrs. Pierce, saw an advertisement for the contest in a magazine. She showed it to the technology teacher Mr. Lyden, now the team coach. He quickly became excited about it. Mr. Lyden sent passes to us to get us out of class to come see him. He knew the three of us had a good chance at doing well in the contest. We than asked Mr. Iselin to be a coach.

How we got the Gap idea: After checking out the Think Quest server, we decided to attend a ThinkQuest informational meeting in Butte, Montana. On our way to Montana we discusses quite a few ideas; One was a Math Helper, another was setting up a Camera at Old faithful. On the way up to Butte we did not find an idea. During the meeting, and while in our Hotel, we thought of other ideas. (We also swam, and had fun, and ate HUGE Prime Ribs!) On our way back we finally thought up our idea. Then the brainstorming began. We wrote down hundreds of ideas, and thought up the name. Once we got back to Casper we began working on Gap.

What happened next: We spend hundreds of combined hours working on our site. Now it is how you see it, enjoy!
