So You want to Help? Just Follow These Steps!

Preface:

  • We recommend you read the whole page once and then go back through, this time using the links.

    Step 1:

  • Spread the word to teachers, friends, and anyone else. Pretty easy, huh.
  • Step 2:

  • Choose an animal that you want to do a report on. We encourage you to support your state. (But you do not have to.) We really have only one restriction as to what animals you may and may not do. That is, it has to be an endangered species. We will even accept multiple pages of an animal (although it is not preferred). To see a list of endangered species by state, Click Here.

    Step 3:

  • Find out everything that you possibly can on your chosen animal. Get information like habitat, diet, reproduction, characteristics, general, and any out of the ordinary measures to protect the animal. Just about anything you want concerning the animal is good.

    Step 4:

  • Use your information to make a species page. If you do not know how to make a home page find a person who can assist you. Species pages do not need to be anything fancy, just basic html coding. For anyone wanting to learn how to make a page this is a great way to start. Click here to see an example page.

    Step 5:
  • Notify us by e-mail. Give Us the common name of the animal you reported on. Also, include your html code in the e-mail. We will look it over and our buttons and such to it. We will also need to know weather you will be housing your page on your server, or need us to house the page on ours. Either way is fine. Make sure you include a statement at the bottom recognizing yourself(s) as the author (ex. This page made for GAP by John Doe of JFK High School). And you can even make your name and/or school a link to allow visitors to e-mail you.

    Step 6:

  • You can show your classmates, teachers, and friends just what you did. And in the future, you can know that someone, somewhere used the information you provided to do a report, or project! Or, maybe even you used it for a report before or after you made the information into an internet home page. And your school will also get recognition! Schools with more than 5 pages completed will receive a link to their home page on our main page.

    Other ways to help out:

  • Tell teachers about our project, and get them to use the information
  • Talk it up. Mention it in news groups, and or IRC chat. Maybe tell your e-mail buddies!
  • Tell local newspapers about it. Tell them what you did to help. Get noticed!
  • Teacher offer extra credit for participants or to anyone who changes a already done report into a home page. Motivate your Students!

    But most of all,
    HAVE FUN!
