Lesson #4: What are the common elements of emotions?

Students should develop knowledge of the key elements of emotions and be able to apply these to every day situations. |
Method:
Step 1: Have students read: What are emotions?
Step 2: Have students identify the emotions and components that would be demonstrated in situations such as the following:
Consider - emotion label, subjective feeling, Expressive behaviour, physiological response, whether it is a positive or negative emotion

Step 3: In small groups, discuss
a) what are the key elements that help us distinguish between
emotions?
b) what difficulties did you experience in describing the
subjective feeling?
Step 4:
a) Have students to look through the emotions survey
responses
b) Discuss the common elements of certain emotions. What are the
some ways in which self reports differ for the same emotions?
c) Make sure they leave a description
of one emotion themselves while they are there.
