Lesson #1: Getting information from our site
Students should know and understand:
|
How laughing
out loud is good for our health
|
Students should be able to:
| Identify what stress, emotions and laughter are | Explain how stress and emotions can influence our health | Identify the psychological and physical ways in which laughter can improve health. |
Method:
Divide the class into groups of three. Each person in the groups are numbered either A, B, or C. A is responsible for researching in the Emotions section, B, in the Stress section, and C in the Laughter section.
The questions for A to answer should follow along the lines
of:
1. What are emotions?
2. How can emotions be good for health? (positive
effects/functions of emotions)
3. How can emotions be harmful to health? (negative impacts of
unprocessed emotions)
B's questions:
1. What is stress?
2. How is stress helpful in life (why is it necessary)?
3. How is stress harmful to our health (psychologically and
physically)?
C's questions:
1. What is laughter?
2. How is humor related to laughter? (hint to the teacher: it's
the trigger!)
3. How is our physical and psychological health improved by
laughing?
A, B
and C come together, each sharing what they discovered about their
respective sections. As a group they answer the question: Why is
laughing out loud good for our health?
(some guiding answers for teacher: it increases positive
feelings in oneself; this shared positive emotions create bondage
between people; the hormones released during genuine laughter help
to maintain the ones released under stress and the main muscles are
used to give a body workout!)
From
here, a class discussion can take place, each group sharing their
reasons for why laughing out loud is good for our health. The
discussion can take place in the form of general discussion, each
taking turns speaking or they can use a
visual gathering
technique.
