Avoid acting impulsively on an intense emotion (like anger). Rather take a 20 minute break and then come back to the situation. Keep a journal to help you understand and analyze your emotions.
Exercise to release emotions and use up the extra energy resulting from the emotional build-up. Talk to people you trust, who can actively listen, and not necessarily give advice, by posing good questions to help you uncover what your feelings are really all about.
