Research

In the research section, you'll be able to use the information you learned in the previous sections to interact with others, and explore concepts further.

  • AeroNet Lounge - an interactive discussion forum, where you can talk with your peers about aerodynamics and aviation.
  • Angle Analysis - a Java applet, which allows you to experiment with the angle of attack of an airfoil, and see the changes in the streamlines.
  • Camber Analysis - an applet which lets you try different amounts of chord to see the changes in the streamlines.
  • Chord Analysis - another applet that allows you to experiment with the chord length, and see the changes in the airflow.
  • Curvature Analysis - an applet which allows you to change the curvature in the airfoil, seeing the changes in the streamlines.
  • Wind Tunnel - the prime applet in AeroNet, the wind tunnel allows you to freely experiment with the concepts you've learned through the site.
  • Design School - along with two of the pioneers that you've learned about, you can go through design school, and go through the process of creating an airplane and flying it.
  • Final Exam - once you've learned everything there is to know from AeroNet, you can take the final exam, and if you do well, you'll receive a certificate to print out.

About the Applets

Here on AeroNet, the streamline applets are the only place in the world you can find an interactive streamline modeler. There are two fields displaying pressure, both in pounds per square inch. The "current pressure" is the pressure at the point where your mouse is, and the "pressure" is the pressure at the point where you last clicked. In the interests of promoting the distribution of knowledge, we have decided to release the source code for all five applets. However, we ask that you e-mail AeroNet at aeronet@tjhsst.edu for permission.
