AGP
Short for Accelerated Graphics Port, AGP
is a new slot designed by Intel. AGP is new compared to the other slots.
AGP was developed to increase the graphics performance of the PC. AGP is
based on PCI, but is designed with a direct link to the main memory. Instead
of having to go through the CPU, the AGP slot uses a dedicated point to
point channel that can directly access the main memory. The AGP bus runs
on a 32-bit slot, which is clocked at 66Mhz.
A few things you should understand about AGP:
-
AGP is an option that is typically integrated into today’s motherboards.
-
The motherboard has to have an AGP chipset for the AGP slot to work as
required.
-
The operating system has to be AGP compatible.
Now you have covered all of the essential features of the motherboard
and the computer itself. Continue your education with Peripheral
devices.
