PCI
This is a PCI expansion slot.
As with every card so far, the development of each card has
been due to another innovation in technology. For the PCI bus, the innovation
was the development of the 64-bit Pentium processor. All previous buses
had been 32-bit and lower. In addition, all previous buses had run at extremely
slow speeds. The PCI bus corrects almost every prior problem associated
with slots. The PCI bus is capable of much higher speeds and is 64-bit.
Furthermore, the PCI bus is capable of configuring itself, eliminating
the cumbersome configuration of IRQs and DMAs. The identification of the
PCI slot is simple. The PCI slot is generally white, closely packed together,
and split into two sections.

PC Card
Commonly identified as PCMCIA or Personal Computer Memory Card International
Association, the PC Card is most commonly used in laptops, but is somewhat
being incorporated into PCs. The PC card uses a small expansion card, approximately
the size of a credit card. There are three different cards used and each
varies in its’ thickness (3.3mm, 5mm, and 10.5mm).
