DRAM

DRAM or Dynamic Access Memory is the preferred choice between SRAM and DRAM, for its efficiency. DRAM technology is slightly different than SRAM technology. DRAM is composed of hundreds of little capacitors, which require a constant refresh. The capacitors operate on the principle of stored energy. When reading memory, the computer interprets a stored charge as a 1.  The design of DRAM requires more energy, due to the requirement for a constant refresh. Therefore, it is used mostly in desktop computers. DRAM also has another change that differs from SRAM. DRAM technology allows the cells to be packed together very tightly, which provides a larger amount of data space per chip (you can cram more into a small area). Due to these reasons, DRAM is used in most PC’s today.
