1974
The first truly general purpose microprocessor
is created
Intel released the 8080, a 8 bit chip, in 1974.
It contained nearly 5,000 transistors and was powerful enough to power
early home computers. This chip was followed by a variety of similar chips
from companies such as Motorola and Zilog. These chips made the first
personal computers possible.
