 Dr. Lotko
Dr. Lotko is a Professor of Engineering and Director at Dartmouth College.  Dartmouth is a prominent Ivy League school and has a very strong engineering program. Dr. Lotko uses his knowledge in engineering concepts to provide us with an interesting look at computers.

What do you think is the most important component of the computer industry today?

Software
If you could choose one important innovation for the future surrounding computers, what would it be?
Three-dimensional integration of micro-components (current VLSI technology is two-dimensional.
What do you think is the most revolutionary invention for the computer industry?
Computer networking.
How do you see yourself involved in the computer industry?
Peripherally. As a developer of advanced algorithms for scientific computation.
What do you think is the most important trend to watch in the development of computers?
Coupling computer processing power with "smart" sensors, i.e., devices that extend human senses and the brain, combined with intelligent algorithms that process incomplete information to arrive at a result, like the human brain.
What is your favorite aspect of today's technology?
Visual, graphical interactivity and user friendly software.
Do you credit anyone in particular for leading the computer industry to where it is today?
No single person.
What would you refer to as the first "computer"?
Eniac

I recommend reading Ray Kurzweil's "The Age of Spiritual Machines."
