Dr. Brennan
Dr. K. Brennan is a Professor and
Institute Fellow at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is one of the leading
technological schools availabe to students. Dr. Brennan teaches in
a computer related field at Georgia Tech and uses his knowledge to provide
us with a descriptive view of the computer today.
What do you think is the most important
component of the computer industry today?
CMOS circuitry - CMOS is the basic component of an integrated
circuit. I believe this is the driving entity in present computers.
If you could choose one important innovation for
the future surrounding computers, what would it be?
Realization of molecular computing. It is quite possible
if molecular systems can be harnessed that computing speeds and capabilities
will undergo a revolutionary change dwarfing that which has occured to
date.
What do you think is the most revolutionary invention
for the computer industry?
Present - CMOS circuits.
Future - molecular circuitry.
How do you see yourself involved in the computer
industry?
I work on the hardware problems for future computing platforms.
What do you think is the most important trend
to watch in the development of computers?
Long term - hardware advances.
Short term - parallelism.
What is your favorite aspect of today's technology?
Ever increasing capability at ever reducing cost.
Do you credit anyone in particular for leading
the computer industry to where it is today?
There are several people that have made the computer industry
what it is today. Hardware - Jack Kilby
Accessibility of Computers - Steven Jobs Software - Alan Turing
What would you refer to as the first "computer"?
The enigma machine.
