Joseph
A short autobiography
Hello, my name is Joseph.
I currently live in Kingsport, Tennessee with my parents, Gary and
Patricia. I was born in Knoxville, TN and have lived in Kingsport
all my life. I have one brother, Patrick, who constantly keeps me
on my toes. I currently receive my excellent education
at Dobyns Bennett High School.
In school, I constantly try to achieve the
maximum goals available and press myself to the limit. I participate
in a wide range of sports and school activities. I am on the Dobyns
Bennett Soccer team where I
play center and right half. I also participate in a variety of clubs
and extracurricular activities like Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Junior Civitan,
Scholars Bowl, and Mock Trial, just to name a few. Now that you are
sufficiently bored I would like to share with you the reasons I have chosen
to compete in this competition.
The adventure
Ever
since 5th Grade when I crashed my mom’s work PC, I have grown a unique
bond with computers. Due to that fatal instance, I was forced to
learn some primitive DOS commands to recover her PC from its own abyss.
I persuaded my parents a few years later to purchase a new 133Mhz computer.
Two years later, I purchased my current computer, which is a 300Mhz Micron.
Some times it chooses not to exist or refuses to acknowledge me, but hey
that’s life with these gray boxes.
I have taken two courses in computer programming.
The first course covered Turbo Pascal. Then, later I took up an independent
study of C++, and finished it with a class (AP Computer Science AB) to
further my knowledge. I have learned Java 1.2 for this competition
and a little bit of JavaScript. I have decent knowledge in almost
any application that runs on Windows 95/98. I plan to finish learning
the rest of the information required for the A+ course. Then, I plan
to take the A+ certification test by December. Furthermore, this
summer I took it upon myself to start my own business. I run a computer
technician/consulting service.
I have always wanted to share my knowledge
with other people in the topic of computers. Using Thinkquest as
my portal, I feel that I can help people in this area. The Thinkquest
competition will also give me the opportunity to learn new things in the
area surrounding computers.
