Welcome to:

Shakespeare!!!

Hi, and welcome to Shakespeare!

Here's the down-low...

Shakespeare's Parents:

John Shakespeare: Occupation- Stratford glove maker and leather dresser

Mary Arden: Came from a Catholic family (people think Shakespeare was secretly Catholic)

Birth:

Born in one of two of his father's houses on Henely Street, in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare was christened on April 26, 1664, within the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare birthday is recognized as April 23, 1664, since it was custom to be baptized 3 days after birth. April 23, is also recognized as the day of Shakespeare's death.

Early Years:

Did you know that no one knows if Shakespeare went to school or not? Well then how did he write his plays so well? But since records weren't kept then, there isn't proof either. Early biographers say before he was a playwright he took up his father's trade.

Marriage:

Announcements about Shakespeare's marriage were said only once instead of 3 times which was how it should have been done at that time. Banns were forbidden during Advent, and the groom probably did not want to wait until January 13, so 2 of the bride's family's friends rode to the Bishop's Court in Worcester to get a special license. They then had to give a bond of 40 pounds to assure no impedimentsto thet union would come up also so Shakespeare would be responsible for any legal actions from the marriage. Six months after the marriage of Shakespeare and Anne, Susanna Shakespear was christened. Two years later, on February 2, 1585, Judith and Hamnet (twins) were born.
