Angelica
(angelica archangelica)
Almost every part of the angelica herb can be used for various purposes: the seeds and stems for cooking and the roots and leaves for medicine. Angelica is an astringent, diuretic, choloagogue, anti-inflammatory, vulnerary, and tonic. It is excellent for bronchitis, fever, influenza, pleurisy, heartburn, and colds. Angelica also strengthens the heart. Because angelica stimulates the appetite, it can be used to help people with anorexia nervosa. The essential oil is helpful for those with colic, flatulence, indigestion, gastritis, and general stomach trouble. The stems, seeds, and roots of angelica are good for calming digestive disturbances and alleviating coughs, and many people think that the powdered root will cause distate for spiritous liquor.
