Glossary for reading about witches, mid-wives and magic.http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~jup/witches/dictionary.htmlOct. 30, 1998 (Most definitions taken from Webster's Dictionary.) amenorrhea- absence of suppression of menstruation from any cause other than pregnancy or the menopause. augury-1: the divination by the interpretation of omens or portents (as inspection of the flight of birds or the entrails of sacrificed animals) or of chance phenomena (as the fall of lots) cabala-a system of occult theosophy or mystical interpretation of the Scriptures originally developed orally among Jewish rabbis. cabalist-one skilled in esoteric doctrine or mysterious art. caul- the membrane enclosing the fetus, especially the part sometimes convering the head at birth. divination-1: the art or practice of discovery of hidden knowlege through augery. 2:unusual insight or intuitive perception. astromancy- use of the stars for divination. cheiromancy/chiromancy- divination by examination of the hand. dactyliomancy- divination by means of a finger-ring. geomancy- divination by means of configurations of earth or by means of figures derived from even or odd numbers of dots jotted down hastily at random haruspicy- divination by inspection of entrails. hydromancy- divination by water or other liquid (as by visions seen there in or the ebb and flow of tides) necromancy- 1. the art or practice of magically revealing the future, of ally attaining other purposes esp. through communication with and the intervention of the dead. 2. the art or practice of magically conjuring up the souls of the dead.oneiroscopy/ oneiromancy- divination by means of dreams.spatulamancy- divination by inspection of animals shoulders.
