Introduction

Welcome to Earthrise!

In this vast universe that we dwell, solar systems could be considered as one of the most fundemental unit. The majestic sun with his nine planets miraclously evolve, creating our present solar system millions of years ago. Sun was just a young proton star then.

A layer of debris & gases surrounded the sun, which collaspes due to the sun's gravity. As the sun slowly mature into a main sequence star, that layer collapse even more. This layer eventually evolved into planets and satellites we've known today.

The 9 members of the sun are, namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. But they are not the only ones in the solar system. The others include comets, asteroids, satellites and many more...

People of the past knew little about all this celestrial objects, and believed that they are god and goddess from the mythical world. Planets were often named after them. For example, Venus was named after the goddess of beauty, as the planet resembles a rare gem hung upon the sky. It was one of the most spectacular object to be seen with a naked eye. You will read more about the relationship between the planets' names and mythology of the ancient people.

In our website, you will also read more about the space probes sent by man to explore and study these planets. It all began with Apollo mission in the 1960s, which sent the first man, Neil Armstrong, to moon. He once said this after his successful quest upon the moon,' One small step for man, a big leap for mankind.' That was indeed very true. We'll also introduce the recent trip to Mars in 1997, where the unmanned space probe, Pathfinder, collected specimens of the martian soil to bring back to Earth for research purposes.

Finally, we have included links to other useful websites which might be a great help for research purposes and a glossary of words related to solar system. We also set a little quiz based on our website. Wanna challange the quiz?
