Aaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee!!!!!!!

Sketch of background     Disney's latest animated movie uses a unique mixture of traditional hand drawing and new computer technology. The look and feel of the movie needed a full 3D feel that needed some special animation. To create this feel a computer program, named "Deep Canvas", had to be written that would put all the pieces of animation together and give the movie a unique feel.

The process included 6 steps to make just one frame of the animation.

  1. A conceptual drawing of the background and enviroment is done with pencils.
  2. Objects in the enviroment are done in 3D using wire frames.
  3. Details(leaves, twigs, moss, etc.) are then added to the wire frames to make them look natural.
  4. Another pencil sketch is done to define the scenes lighting and textures that will be added to the 3D models.
  5. Special 3-D objects that define the areas that will remain in focus are added to the scene.
  6. The last step is rendering the entire scene so that all the items go together and produce a beautiful background.
