Making of Teach Bot 5000

(our mascot/teacher) in 3DS Max

Start by making 5000s head. Make a regular cube(tan) select the four vertices on the top plae and scale it down a few sizes. You'll end up with a 3D trapezoid. Select two adjacent vertices on the bottom of the shape somewhere and pull them out a tad. Use these methods to make the bottom of the Teach Bot too only use a bigger cube to start with(and green). Teach Bot's body consists of a long, cubic box that I made taper at the sides towards the back.

The shoulders consist of two big yellow spheres. The arms consist of elongated capsules(green) that taper at the "hands". The hands aren't hands but two little yellow balls attached to the wrist.

Now might be a good time to give him that awesome visor. It consists of a gold capsule, sliced down the middle the long way. Attach that part now to the center of his head on the front flat plane(the other side of his head should taper towards his back). Now *edit mesh* a few center panels on the front of the gold capsule, pull them out, and insert a red rectangle into the hole you just made making sure to push it back until it meets his head.

Attach a long, very skinny capsule to the right hand. Use a grainy wood texture to actually make it a pointer. Create a sphere, slice it in half, make it transparent and stick it on his chest(the Animation 101 book inside is optional). For the cap, use a very short, flattened cube for the top, and cut the tip off of a cone, and attach the two, and then to his head. Use a blue, smoky texture and stretch it for a fabric look.

For the finishing touches, attack ball joints in between his bottom and body; his shoulders and arms; and his body and neck. Make the discreet in that they are hidden from camera view, these joints will let you move Teach Bot 5000 any way you want once you connect the parts in a child to parent chain correctly. Now add reflective surfaces to the body, head, bottom, arms, and a little on the visor surrounder, and a very shiny surface to the pointer and chest sphere. Render and have fun!
