3d Studio Max r3, by Discreet, is the latest version of one of the most popular 3d editing programs. This version brings improved image quality, scene management, and workflow. New filters allow users to create better images with less but the anti-aliasing and such cause longer rendering times. Also custom shadows feature has been added allowing artists to color the shadows or map it with a texture. Raytraced refractions and reflections have been speeded up though so shadows will be rendered faster. Discreet now allows people to customize their workspace more by moving toolbars and designing their own. Another new feature is cross referencing("xref") files, which has been in AutoCAD for some time. This allows users to work on or update an object/scene in it's own file and then have a master link it. With this many people could work on different parts of a scene without effecting the others.
