| Planting Materials |
Orchids can be propagated through seeds, tisuue culture and cuttings. All planting materials use for propagationmust be free from pests and diseases. Tissue culture planting materials are highly recommended because of its advantages. Tissue culture seedlings are usually clean and healthy, thus ensuring a high growth rate and flower production at a much shorter period.
Vegetative planting materials for monopodium orchids can be easily obtained by cutting the upper portion of the plants with 2-3 aerial roots while the vegetative planting materialsfor simpodium orchids could be obtained by dividing the pseudobulbs into smaller clumps of 2-4 maturedpseudobulbs. These matured pseudobulbs will thendevelop into a new shoot.
