Broken bricks and charcoal are widely used for orchid cultivation in Malaysia. Both materials are equally good for orchids. Other cheaper materials such as coconut husk, ferns trunk,soft timber material and broken clay pots could also be used. All planting materials, as mediums, must be of high quality so as to avoid problem during growth of the plant. For example, the bricks must be well furnaced and the charcoal should be even surfaced.
