Lots of science fiction shows that have ship to ship combat in them, have devices could shields. They are usually invisible and use different techniques to create them in different shows. In Star Trek, the shields that they use apparently use gravity to deflect weapons fire. In theory, this is possible, the sun deflects light from it, however only by a hundredth of a degree, and that is with the gravitational force of the entire sun. So, in order to deflect powerful weapons fire, the gravitational force around the ship would have to be a lot more than the sun, contained in a small area.
