We have basically reached speeds as fast as they are going to get over normal phone lines for the internet. In the future, more and more people are going to get alternate lines for internet access like ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), cable modem and satellite access. Because files are getting bigger and bigger everyday, and if people stay with this slow medium for accessing the internet, these files will take quite a while to download and even view on pages on the internet. Also, more and more websites are going up everyday, for example, in the year of 1998, Altavista indexed almost 85 million new web pages. With this kind of growth, we can expect the internet to become a much bigger place in the future. And also, more people are getting onto the internet. Eventually, the internet may become like TV to everyone.
