What lies beyond the year 2000? Future Power
|
The Earth is running out of power supplies. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, we have exhausted nearly all of our natural power supplies, such as coal and oil. That has only been one hundred years and all of those fuels have been being made for millions of years. If we want to still be able to use electrical goods, drive cars and other vehicles and anything else that uses natural fuels, we will have to find new, efficient power supplies. Currently, there are other choices such as solar power, hydro-power and wind power, but these technologies require extremely large areas and are expensive to run, so they have not really kicked off. However, if we were to discover new power sources that were not much more expensive than traditional power supplies and as efficient, then we would not have to run out of power. According to relativity, we can never create energy. So we cannot get something for nothing. This section describes several new possibilities for power supplies that we could use in the future. It has been split up into the following sections (which each are new power supply possibilities):
