We are seeing computers getting faster everyday, a few years ago, a fast computer would have been a 486.  A 66mHz computer would have been fast, these days, a 66mHz is very slow.  Computers are getting faster at an extremly fast rate.  Seth Lloyd, a physicist at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) predicts that we hit the level where conventional computer components can get no smaller, so then if we do not have any other different types of computers, computers will just get bigger and bigger as more power is added..  This is when the laws of normal physics start to break down.  We need a computer that is totally different.

In 1985, a physicist named David Deutsch thought up what is known as a Quantum Computer.  He assumed that one would never be built, that it would be simply a theory on paper, but today, people are trying to build them.   Quantum computers use complicated quantum mechanics which alow a particle to be in more than one place at the same time (unless it is being observed).

In the future we can expect to see much faster computers.  After all, a Nintendo of today is much more powerful than a computer the size of a large room was 40 years ago.
