Welcome to The Baroque Reference. This site is a repository of information about the Baroque era of music, which spanned approximately 150 years, from 1600 to 1750.
This site offers a variety of Baroque music-related information. In our Composers area, we have more than 20 biographies of Baroque composers. The biographies also contain links to more information on other sites, as well as MIDI sequences of the composers' works.
In our Instruments area, we have information on more than 15 instruments that were used during the Baroque era. Included is a brief description of the history of each instrument, as well as an explanation of how each instrument works.
Don't know a sforzando from an accelerando? Our extensive Glossary can help. Over one hundred musical terms are listed and defined.
We hope you enjoy our site, and thanks for visiting!
