Historical development
In developing symbols to represent relationships, two historical
schools arose:
- George Boole (1815-1864)
- August De Morgan (1806-1871) and Charles
Peirce (1839-1914)
Boole's system validated arguments (like
Aristotle), where Peirce's dealt with relational arguments.
Symbolic logic reached a unifying consensus in the writings of
the following men:
- Gottlob Frege (1848-1925)
- Guiseppe Peano (1858-1932)
- Alfred North Whitehead
(1861-1947)
- Bertrand Russell (1872-1970)
Now that we have learned all of the
principles and theory in the above topic tabs, we will proceed to
presenting, in this topic tab, the conventional symbolic
representation of the above relationships. Should you get lost in
this tab, visit the above theory tabs again. We assume that you
are familiar with the terms and their meanings from here on
out.
