The outer layer of your teeth, called enamel, is the hardest part of your body.

TYPES OF TEETH

Have you ever counted your teeth? If you did, you would find you had 32! Of course, that is after your baby teeth are all out and your permanent teeth are in!

You have 4 types of teeth. They are:

Incisors You have eight incisors. They are in the front and the teeth you see the most. They are made for tearing food.
Canines These are the pointy teeth right beside your incisors. You have four of these. They are for grasping and tearing food . When you bite into a piece of pizza, the incisors and canines work together to cut the cheese away! They are called canines because you often see them among dog's teeth.
Premolars These are the next teeth you find as you go back along your teeth. They are the flat, stubby teeth that grind food down for swallowing.
Molars Molars are behind premolars. They are wide and flat, perfect for grinding up food.

Did you realize how complicated teeth can be? Next we will discuss the parts of a tooth.
