PARTS OF A TOOTH

  • Pulp is sensitive and holds the nerves and blood vessels deep down in the root of the tooth.
  • Dentin is the hard material like your bones that surrounds the pulp.
  • Cementum is a thin layer of material just like dentin, but it covers the root of your tooth.
  • Enamel is the hard material that we see when we look at teeth. It covers the top of each tooth.

Here is a picture of what a molar (one of the flat teeth for grinding food) looks like. Remember, the only part we ever see is the top, white part.
