Health Column - Issue 2
Dear Dr. Morrison,
In the past 2-3 years it seems like the enamel on the lower portion of my front teeth has gotten thinner and those teeth have become more sensitive. I am a 30 year old woman. I brush my teeth at least three times a day with Crest toothpaste. I don't drink caffeinated beverages or smoke. I don't think I grind my teeth (my jaw never hurts).
I am worried that eventually the lower portion of my four front teeth are going to wear away.

Dear Rachel,
Most who grind their teeth do so while asleep. You would be subconsciously grinding and therefore may not produce pain. When you say that you brush your teeth at least three times a day, I wonder if you brush four or five times on some occasions. Brishing too much can be a bad thing. Toothpaste is abrasive and brushing heavily may agravate your problem. You should see your dentist to evaluate the problem after he gets a dental history chart from you.
