Basketball
the Begin
In 1936 came basketball to the list of Olympics Sports, but in 1904 was it already a demonstration-sport at the Olympics. The first time was the tournament played outside, what afterthat never happened again.
There were 21 countries who participated, and one official was Avery Brundage (USA), a later IOC-president.
Vexed Final
In 1972 played the USA and the USSR against each other in the final. There only were three seconds to play (score 49-48 for the USSR). There was a contravention against Doug Collins (USA), after which the USA two free throws get. It became 50-49. With just one second: the Sovjets played the ball into the field, but nothing hapened. The USA-supporters came on the field. The supporters had to go off the field and the USSR might play the ball again, here came out nothing too. But doctor William Jones (GB) and the secretary-general of the FIBA (the Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur) said that the Sovjets must have 3 seconds, and in those three seconds they scored (51-50). The USA protested and refused the silver medal.
Some people viewed in 1995 the video of the game, and there came on that nobody could reproach the officials something, the USSR got the gold justly.
the Dream Team
Who say basketball, had to say Dream Team too. The American basketballteam. The Dream Team, there have been 3 (whereof the last the fewest successfull, because they didn't reach the 100 points in the final (98)). America was indignant.
