Athens wanted the Olympics of 1996, because in that year was the 100 anniversary of the modern Olympics, so they thought that they might been the host city of the Olympics (the very first modern Olympics had been held there), bit it didn't may. Atlanta got the Olympics of 1996. After the announcement of that the delegation-members took off the gloves. Greece took up an asocial position opposite the IOC. They boycotted the sponsorprogram. So they weren't good losers.

The Olympics of 2004 were indeed awarded to Athens (Athens had each round the most votes):

  1. Buenos Aires and Cape Town got each 16 votes. In a round between those two cities won Cape Town with 62-44.
  2. Stockholm got only 19 and Cape Town only 20 votes.
  3. Athens got 52 votes, if Athens had two more votes, they already won.
  4. Athens - Rome: Rome spent the most money at campaign-conducting and was very self-confident. But Athens won with 66-41.
