Here was there something wrong too. There were wrongly plans, stoppages, precisionactions and (alleged:) enormous corruption. So were the costs not 310 million dollar but 1400 million dollar.
The Olympic stadium cost 485 million dollar, whereas the 160 meter high tower and the roof are never completed.
The organisation thought that it wasn't completed before the Olympics should begun (6 months before the official opening), but everything was ready on time.

Again a boycott. 20 African countries didn't come, because the New-Zealand rugbyteam visited South Africa. And so they wanted that New-Zealand didn't may participate (where do they get it from??). But New-Zealand might participate, and those 20 countries didn't.
Taiwan retired too, because they didn't may compete with the name "Republic China" of the Canadian Olympic authorities.
Because of all these retires (the most two days before the begin), had a few parts been canceled, because the organisation couldn't place all the athletes.
And the organisation added some sports, so the number of golden medals was 198.

By the openings ceremony carried a boy and a girl (each 15 years old) the torche into the stadium. The boy was of English origin and the girl of French origin. They both hold the torche fast with one hand, as symbol of the together patrimony of the two communities of Canada.
