The IOC choosed Melbourne for the organisation of these Olympics. With a majority of one vote.
According as time pressed, had Australia to say, that by big delay and stern rules they weren't able to organise the equestrian numbers (horsenumbers). So was decided, for the only time in the history, one number of sport teared away from the official Olympics and had been held somewhere else, that was Stockholm.
At these Olympics, again, it political smellt, caused by an invasion of the USSR in Hungary (the Hungarians participate, and with success), and the conflict between Israel and Egypt about the Suez Canal. So, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Egypt and Lebanon didn't participate. Communistic China didn't participate too, because of Taiwan participated.
These Olympipcs were the very first which had been held on the southern hemisphere.
By the soccerfinal was there something special again, the winner got the as last presented medal in a Olympic year, namely 8 December. The winner? USSR won with 1-0 from Yugoslavia.
In Stockholm was there again much critixism at the officials. They were accused of chauvinism. And they didn't canceled the cross-country when it was bad weather, what is dangerous for cross-country.
