During the openings ceremony were there two thrilling events.
Remarkable was, that this time there were two Olympic Villages. One for the Sovietbloc, and the rest (the most) staid somewhere else. The Soviets wanted to furnish their own village.
Yet something politic: Taiwan (Nationalistic China) retired, because of Communistic China was invited.
Remarkable: there was at the Olympics one Czech (Emil Zátopek), who by track-and-field, three distances won. The 5,000 meter, the 10,000 meter and the Marathon.
His wife, who has her birthday at the same day as him, won within an hour after the 5,000 meter of her husband a gold medal for javelin.
