The famous sentence from Juan Antonio Samaranch that he alwas says after the Olympics, that these Olympics were the best ever. The sentence is nearly always wrong, except this time.
Lillehammer had some records. Like the Olympic records at the sports, but other records too. Lillehammer had sold 1.4 million tickets, that was 88% of the available tickets (Los Angeles (1984) had the record with 82%). Before the Olympics were begun, success was assured. The biggest amount for television-rights was sold (355 million dollar), the biggest marketing-costs (525 million dollar), the most joining countries at the Winter Olympics and the most televiewers (10 million).
After the Olympics there were costs of 1,16 billion dollar. The incomings were low (in proportion to the outgoings), 380 million dollar.
Anyhow they like it. Lillehammer had signed up for the organization of the Olympics of 2010 en 2014. For 2006 had informed the Finnish Lahti if there is something to organize together (Anyhow: Turin was given 2006). We wait for if Lillehammer will organize something.
