That Albertville was given these Olympics, had nothing to do with the fact that Paris didn't get the Summer Olympics of 1992, but behind the scenes people knew better (what that is, we don't know).

Albertville were not the best Winter Olympics ever, people agree about that. Not only the sphere wasn't there, the stadiums were too far of each other.
And it happened that these Olympics were to promote the local area as tourist place. The milieu had been attacked through these Olympics, but that didn't interest the organization. After these Olympics the IOC preferred green Olympics.

Albertville '92 had after these Olympics a shortage of 280 million French francs, the government would carry the debts. The commentary? "An international media-campaign should be more expensive."

But Albertville had records, only one part had to be moved through bad weather.
The Olympic area was 1600 km² (about 625 miles²), the largest distance was 118 km (about 74 miles) between two accommodations. The biggest accommodation was the Ceremony-stadium with 30,000 places, the most expensive was the ski-jumping- and cross-country-stadium.
