This was the first Winter Olympics which was ever in a North-European country. Although they had won 369 medals, whereof 123 gold ones. In brackets: in 1994 were the Winter Olympics for the second and last time in North-Europe.

The Olympic fire comes usually out Greece, the old city Olympia. But this year came the fire out Morgedal (South-Norway), the dwelling-place of Sondre Nordheim, father of the modern skiing.

At the opening ceremony all the British athletes were wearing a black bracelet, because at that day was the funeral of king George .
So the opening was not done through king Haakon and the crown princess (they were both in London at the funeral), but through princess Ragnild.

Because there was bad weather, some numbers (like the giant slalom for women) were for the official opening done. 2 alpinenumbers (of the 3) were done at 120 km (about 75 miles) from Oslo, in Norefjell.
